Tempered glass is built to burst. When a door pane goes, it does not crack in a line you can fill with resin, it turns into a heap of small cubes across the seat and down inside the door. That is why replacement is the only route. We pull the door panel, vacuum out the cavity where the regulator and the lock sit, set the new pane to match your factory tint, and run the window up and down until it tracks clean. Rear glass adds a defroster grid and, on plenty of cars, an antenna printed into the same lines. Both get reconnected and tested before the car leaves North Street.
The reason to bring it to a body shop is what usually comes with the broken glass. A door that has been pried open at the top edge, or clipped by a passing mirror on one of Bergenfield's narrow residential streets, is no longer square.
