Mirror strikes and curbside scrapes account for a lot of the door glass we replace. A car parked tight to the line with traffic squeezing past loses the mirror first and the window a moment later, and the door skin takes a long shallow crease down its length. On paper that is cosmetic. In practice the frame lip moves, the run channel narrows a fraction, and the pane you drop in afterward either drags on its way up or never quite meets the weatherstrip at the top.
Which is why the panel gets attention before the glass does. We pull the crease out, refinish the door so the color carries across from the fender, then set the tempered pane matched to the factory tint and cycle the window until it runs without complaint. Cubes come out of the cavity, the seat rails and the carpet with the trim panel off. Rear glass gets the defroster grid and any printed antenna reconnected and tested before the trim panel goes back on.
