Tempered glass cannot be repaired, and that surprises people who have had a windshield chip filled. A windshield is laminated, two layers with plastic between them, so a break stays local and resin can take its place. Side, quarter and rear panes are heat-treated to fail completely instead, dropping into blunt cubes rather than leaving daggers in the frame. It is the safer failure by design. It also means there is nothing to inject, nothing to polish flush, and no version of this job that ends with the original glass still in the car.
What we can control is how the new one goes in. Tint is matched to the factory shade. Rear glass has its defroster grid, and sometimes the radio antenna, reconnected and proven working. The door panel comes off, the cavity gets vacuumed, the regulator is checked and the window is run through its travel. If a branch came down hard enough to dish a roof rail or crease a pillar, the metal and the paint are sorted out here before the pane is fitted, then the car heads back up toward Knickerbocker Road in one piece. Aftermarket film does not survive the break and would need reapplying separately.
